Choose a subject:
At Northdown, our aim is for every pupil to develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity towards learning Spanish, the culture of Spanish-speaking countries, and language learning in general. We aim to lay the foundations for linguistic progression and equip our students with the skills and confidence to communicate effectively.
How is the subject taught?
We use the Language Angels scheme of work to ensure a high-quality, sequential, and consistent approach to teaching Spanish.
The structured and progressive nature of Language Angels allows us to:
- Systematically build vocabulary and grammar: Pupils revisit and build upon prior learning, embedding core language structures and a wide range of topic-specific vocabulary over time.
- Develop all four key skills: Lessons are designed to engage pupils in listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities, ensuring a balanced development of communication skills.
- Integrate cultural awareness: We use the scheme's resources to explore the geography, traditions, and culture of Spanish-speaking communities, fostering a sense of global citizenship.
