            At Northdown we love to celebrate and embrace children's creatine skills.We use Kapow music to help to develop a life-long love of music. The main intent of our music curriculum, delivered through the Kapow Primary Music scheme, is to help every child feel inherently musical and to ignite a lifelong love and appreciation of music. We aim to develop the skills, knowledge, and understanding necessary for pupils to become confident and creative performers, composers, and listeners.
How is the subject taught?
We intend to deliver a curriculum that is holistic, ambitious, and ensures continuous progression by focusing on the five interconnected strands of musical learning:
- Performing: Developing skills in singing fluently and playing both tuned and untuned instruments with accuracy and control, both solo and as part of an ensemble.
- Listening: Developing the ability to appraise music critically, understanding and articulating the inter-related dimensions of music (pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, and structure).
- Composing & Improvising: Providing opportunities to create original music, exploring and manipulating sounds, and using musical notation where appropriate.
- History of Music: Introducing a diverse and rich range of music from different historical periods, genres, styles, and global traditions, fostering cultural understanding and respect.
- Inter-related Dimensions of Music: Systematically teaching the language of music to enable pupils to apply their knowledge expressively in their performance and composit
