Physical Education

Choose a subject:

PE at Northdown aims to foster a lifelong love of physical activity by developing physical competence, promoting a healthy lifestyle, and instilling our school values of harmony, determination, courage, curiosity, and aspiration.

All students, regardless of ability, are physically confident and have opportunities to engage in a wide range of activities, from developing fundamental movement skills and agility to participating in competitive sports.

How is the subject taught?

Children will engage in a wide range of sports throughout the year; aimed at developing an array of skills. In Key Stage 1, a focus on agility, balance and coordination runs throughout all lessons. This then feeds into our Key Stage 2 curriculum, where some of those fundamental skills are applied more precisely in team sports and games.

We have two lessons for each phase per week, and our PE teacher offers expert teaching in lessons from Nursery through to Year 6. Engaging children – and giving every pupil access to PE - requires a varied and rich curriculum, and the introduction of sports like Boccia, Dance, Ultimate Frisbee, and Tri Golf will allow us to offer all pupils equal opportunities in our curriculum.
