History
At Northdown we provide a history curriculum that inspires curiosity and helps children develop an understanding of the past and its impact on the present. We aim for pupils to gain knowledge of significant events, people, and everyday life across different periods, while developing a secure sense of chronology.
Through the use of stories, artefacts, timelines, and practical activities, we encourage children to ask questions, think critically, and interpret evidence. Above all, we intend for children to see history as meaningful and engaging, recognising it as a collection of rich and fascinating stories that connect us all.
How is the subject taught?
History is taught in a lively and engaging way, using stories, role play, and practical activities to help children imagine what life was like in the past. Pupils explore key events, significant individuals, and different periods through the use of artefacts, pictures, and a range of sources. They are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions, discuss their ideas, and consider how the past has shaped the world we know today. Our approach aims to nurture curiosity, build understanding, and ensure that children see history as both enjoyable and meaningful.
