Science
At Northdown Primary, our aim is to nurture a lifelong curiosity about the world by providing a rich and engaging science curriculum. We develop children’s scientific knowledge, skills, and vocabulary through practical experiences and meaningful investigations. By encouraging questioning, exploration, and critical thinking, we equip pupils with the confidence to understand and explain the world around them, while laying strong foundations for future scientific learning.
Science is taught through practical, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and excitement. Lessons are carefully planned to build knowledge and skills step by step, while encouraging children to ask questions and think like young scientists. We implement The Education People: Primary Science Scheme of Work which provides structure, progression and ensures the National Curriculum is taught in a creative meaning way.
At Northdown, we make learning meaningful by linking science to real-life contexts, outdoor learning, and cross-curricular opportunities. Through experiments, investigations, and discussions, pupils develop key skills in observing, predicting, recording, and evaluating. Our approach ensures that all children enjoy science, see its relevance in everyday life, and are well-prepared for the next stage of their education.
