Big Question: Which dinosaur is the best?

Our core text this term is, 'Dinosaurs and all that rubbish' written by Michael Foreman. It is the tale of one man's quest to visit a star that led to the awakening of the dinosaurs!

Dinosaurs And All That Rubbish by Michael Foreman

Here is a link to the story

We will be learning a text map linked to this story and exploring the five main parts of the story. The children will have opportunities to write labels and captions linked to the text by applying the phonics they are being taught in class.

This term your children will be exploring and comparing capacity, length and weight. We will also be exploring the properties and vocabulary of 3D shape.

Can you identify and describe each of these glasses using the vocabulary, full, half full, empty?

Which of these animals would you describe as light? Which animal would you describe as heavy? Which animal is the heaviest? Which animal do you think is the lightest?

How would you describe the length of these pencils? Can you apply the vocabulary, long, longer, longest, short, shorter, shortest?

During our topic lessons we will be applying our colour mixing skills learnt during term 1 to paint dinosaurs, we will also be using paint to explore print.

We will investigate how to join different materials using glue and tape to build 3D dinosaurs and experiment with different media to create dinosaur images.

The children will also be learning about the differences and similarities between carnivore and herbivore dinosaurs. We will examine the differences in their teeth and how we can care for our own teeth.

The children will also have the opportunity to become archeologists by excavating dinosaurs from blocks of ice!
