Term 5

This term in maths we will be focusing on how to write number sentences, using directional vocabulary and applying our knowledge of counting in 2's, 5's and 10's to solve multiplication problems.

Our core text in literacy will be 'Oliver's vegetables', a wonderful tale of how a boy discovers he likes vegetables. Our focus will be on applying taught spelling rules, understanding plurals and writing expanded sentences.

Linking to our core text, our Science topic this term will be 'Plants'. We are hoping to grow a variety of vegetables and record our predictions and results. We will also be learning about the different parts of a plant and how a plant grows from a seed.

Our Art and Geography lessons will also be linked to our core text and we will be exploring Great Britain in more detail whilst exploring the artist, Arcimboldo.

The Prepositions Song ♫♪♫ | Scratch Garden

Practice your Place Prepositions with a fun song and a very happy piece of cheese! Great for teaching primary classes and ESL students!

The children applied their knowledge of positional language to write algorithms so they could navigate an 'Angry bird' around a maze. They had great fun working in pairs and trying to complete the various levels.

We have planted our vegetable seeds! Can you remember which vegetables we are trying to grow?

A member of our class is learning to play the piano. His parents brought in his keyboard and we were able to hear the fabulous sound of live music! It was a wonderful treat and very inspirational.

Term 4

During term 4 our core text will be the 'Bog baby'. our focus will be on capital letters for proper nouns, common exception word spelling and the use of adjectives to enrich our writing.

We will link our science lessons to our core text and learn to name and describe British birds and woodland animals, classify herbivores, omnivores and carnivores and describe animal habitats.

We will also link our art lessons to our core text and experiment with leave printing, woodland collages and clay modelling.

In maths we will use number facts within 20 to solve number problems and learn how to read the time using the terms, o'clock and half past.

We went for a walk around our school grounds and we found our very own Bog baby!

In preparation for World book day, we had a visit from author, Gwyneth Rees. She explained how she created good characters and then read extracts from her books. We all felt very inspired to write after her visit!

On World book day, we came dressed as our favourite book character. Who would you dress up as?

We have used black and white paint to create shades of blue then...painted our very own Bog babies!

Mrs. Parsons forgot to put the lid on the jar we kept our Bog baby in. He managed to get out and go missing! We were so worried that we made missing posters and placed them around the school.

As part of our science topic on, 'Humans and other animals', we have a class wormery and snails in our classroom. We are learning about the habitat of these animals, their eating habits and how to care for animals. We are also lucky enough to currently have a corn snake skin that was recently shed by Mr. Wearing's pet. The children have been fascinated!

A huge 'Thank you' to everyone who came to our 'Learning together' afternoon. It was fantastic to see you all and we hope you can visit us again next term!

Term 3

During term 3 our core text will be the 'Gruffalo'. We will be exploring rhyme and the use of adjectives in writing. Our grammar focus will remain the use of finger spaces, full stops and capital letters at the beginning of a sentence and for proper nouns.

In maths our focus will be recognising British coins, understanding their value and using coins to solve money problems. We will also be counting in twos, fives and tens and exploring 3D shapes and their properties.

During our science lessons we will be learning about 'Humans and other animals'. We will be using our forest school to link to our own habitat and the habitat of other creatures we share our environment with. We will also be using our time in the forest school to support our art and literacy lessons, whilst also going on shape hunts and trying to catch the illusive Gruffalo!

3D Shapes I Know (solid shapes song- including sphere, cylinder, cube, cone, and pyramid)

3D Shapes I Know (new pyramid version) This version includes only ONE chorus at a time, whereas the old version used to do 2 at a time. I didn't like that the old one felt too long each time. I've also included a section about "a pyramid" now.

Art work inspired by the artist, Andy Goldsworthy.

We have been learning about the work of artist Andy Goldsworthy. We then visited our forest school and produced our own art work using natural materials found in our forest.
