Learning and Growing Together!
'Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere'
Spring has finally sprung! This is a very exciting time of year with so many changes taking place within our outside environment.
During term 5 the children will have opportunities to explore both the wildlife our environment has to offer and develop their knowledge of indigenous trees and plants.
During our literacy lessons the children will explore a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry texts linked to 'Mini beasts'.
This will give the children the opportunity to extend their knowledge and vocabulary whilst also developing their independent writing skills.
You can support your child by discussing features of any mini beasts you may see on the way to school. You may even want to find out some interesting facts about mini beasts to share in class!
In our maths lessons we will be developing our knowledge of basic 3D shapes. The children will have the opportunity to explore 3D shapes and apply vocabulary to describe the properties of these shapes.
You can support your child by discussing objects around the home and linking them to 3D shapes. Develop your child's understanding by asking them the question, "How do you know?"
We will also be continuing our work on numbers within 20, please visit the 'Maths resources' button at the top of the page for useful songs to support your child's learning.
This term we will be continuing our topic of 'Chinese New year'. The children will have more opportunities to explore China such as the story behind the Chinese new year and develop their non-fiction writing.
During our maths lessons, we will be sequencing events, understanding the vocabulary of before, next, after, learning the days of the week and applying prepositional language such as, under, over, behind.
We will also be developing our number knowledge to 20 and using methods to measure time. Please visit the 'Maths resources' button at the top of the page for helpful songs and web pages that can support your child.
In term 3, our topic will be 'Chinese New Year'. During this topic we will be able to explore different cultures and enjoy some exciting new experiences.
Our role play area has become a busy market place where children can develop their counting and adding skills whilst exploring money. We also have a Chinese restaurant, where the children will be able to explore different costumes, roles and develop their writing skills by taking orders.
During our maths lessons we will be securing our number understanding to 20, exploring money and investigating common 2D shapes. Please visit the 'Maths resources' button on this page for helpful resources to support your child's learning.
We will be starting the term with our very exciting trip to Quex Forest School. The children will have opportunities to learn about our local environment whilst also developing personal growth through physical experiences such as climbing and a zip-wire!
Our topic this term is, 'People who help us'. We will be finding out about roles within our community and exploring how these roles help us. These roles will include people who work as part of the emergency services, people who work in local businesses and our families. We will be visited by the RNLI and our local vicar to discuss their roles in our community and inviting families into our classroom for a 'Learning together' session.
During our literacy lessons we will be writing labels and captions linked to our role play area and roles within the community that we explore. The children will be applying taught phonics and key words to their writing. You can support your child by exploring labels whilst out shopping or by encouraging your child to label items found around the home.
Alongside our non-fiction work, we will be exploring a range of 'Superhero' texts to support our vocabulary and sentence structure.
Our topic this term is the inspirational British author, Julia Donaldson. The children will be exploring a range of books written by the author and developing artistic skills through the characters.
During our literacy lessons we have been exploring some of Julia Donaldson's fantastic stories. The children have really been enjoying composing songs to describe characters from 'The Gruffalo'. The children have also enjoyed visiting our Forest school to develop their vocabulary to describe the setting.
