'Learning and Growing Together' to be the best person that we can possibly be. In Elm class we work as team to support and encourage each other on every step of our learning journey.
Term 6 - Journeys
This term we will take children on an adventure to meet all sorts of characters as we navigate our way through familiar settings in stories. We encourage you, when journeying from A to B to think about who you see/meet along the way.
We will also explore different modes of transport that people use when going on an adventure. Where have you travelled to? Did you go by land, air or sea?
Term 5 - Minibeasts
Welcome back to an exciting term which sees us deeply immerse ourselves in our world around us. The children will explore the beauty of nature and the wonders of Spring as they are encouraged to observe the changes that unfold around them. We will spend time investigating the wildlife within our grounds; comparing the creatures and plants we find, looking closely at the similarities and differences.
The children will have an opportunity to explore first hand growth by planting seeds and plants and discovering what they need in order to care for them.
Term 4 - Space
We begin our journey into space with a trip to the moon. Our talk for writing story 'Whatever Next!' tells of a bear who finds a rocket to take him on this adventure.
Through our topic sessions we will follow the children's interests in learning about the planets in our solar system.
We will spend time listening to Gustav Holst 'The Planet Suite' and talk about the imagery this music provokes in our minds.
Term 3 - Happy New Year
Term 3~: Happy New Year!
This term our topic focus is China and their New Year Celebrations. The children will gain an understanding of different ways of life in other countries and cultures. We shall sample native foods, explore dragon dances and together write poems to encompass what we have learnt.
Our Talk for Writing begins with 'The Great Race' a story which depicts how the Chinese Zodiac was formed. As we learn to recite the story the children will increase their vocabulary to describe how animals look and move. Our grammar foci will be nouns and adjectives. e.g the ferocious tiger, the sneaky rat
In Maths we will explore different ways of representing data and learn how to interpret information on tally charts, pictograms and block graphs.
We will continue to strengthen our understanding of number by making estimates of quantities of objects which we will then compare by counting
